Enchanting Chikamangalur
Chikamangalur is the ultimate trekker’s paradise; hills, valleys and rugged mountains characterize the landscape of this scenic town situated in the Sahyadri Mountains. Coffee and pepper plantations cover vast stretches of the valleys. Even now, coffee cultivation is one of the mainstays of Chikamangalur. Coffee is said to have introduced to India here, the first seeds having been brought from Yemen by the Muslim saint Baba Budan. One of the mountain ranges has in fact been named after the saint. A popular spot of tourists is the laterite cave Inam Dattatreya Peetha, visited by both Hindus and Muslims. Down the mountains trickle a number of streams of the rivers Bhadra, Hemavathi, Tunga, Netravathi, Vedavathi etc.
