The people of Kerala celebrates the first day of Malayalam new year as 'Chingam One'. Chingam is a month of celebrations with the state festival 'Onam' celebrated during the month. People of Kerala wear traditional dress during the first day of new year according to the traditional calendar. Men wear 'Mundu' and Shirt, the traditional dress and women wear 'Kerala Saree'. Chingam month is said to have high importance due to the harvest festival Onam. The preparations of Onam start with Atham. A colourful attachamayam festival is held in Tripunithura, Cochin. Hindus visit temple during Chingam One.
